Recipes -

After sending Bella a Christmas card for years with no response, a few years before I'd decided to add something more personal- one of Mum's recipes. I had included various Christmas recipes each year since, from gingerbread to chocolate and cranberry brownies- Bella's favorite as a child. I saw these as a reminder of the good times we'd shared and hoped she'd feel the same. Just writing down those recipes reminded me of Mum in her kitchen- the soft, wobbly fold of flour into butter, the grit of sugar, the heady fragrance of chocolate, sweet vanilla and the warmth of ginger

Eggs Recipes:

Eggs contain several vitamins and minerals that are essential parts of a healthful diet. In many parts of the world, eggs are a readily available, inexpensive food. In the past, there was some controversy about whether eggs are healthful or not, especially concerning cholesterol. The current thinking, however, is that, in moderation, eggs are healthful, as they can be a good source of protein and other essential nutrients.

Rice Recipe:

Rice is a staple food across the globe, and has been so for millennia. I’ve personally been eating rice my whole life. Generations upon generations have cooked rice before me. Yet here I am, in my apartment’s narrow galley kitchen, staring at yet another pot of bad rice. Somehow, my rice is both mushy and crunchy. My rice is a big steaming pile of disappointment. And I’m not even bad at cooking – I’ve been cooking for my whole life! For some reason though, ever since I moved into this apartment 12 months ago, I have not been able to cook good rice.

Soup Recipe:

Soup season is here! There’s a lot to love about fall – beautiful weather, changing leaves, cozy baked goods and hot drinks – but the soup recipes are hands down my favorite part. I adore soup. I love making it, I love eating it, and I love packing up the leftovers so that I can enjoy it again the next day. When I’m stressed, I turn to soup because I find it meditative to cook. When I’m snowed in, I turn to it because I keep a stash stored away in my freezer. And when I’m in need of a healthy reset, I turn to it because it just makes me feel good inside.

Meat Recipe

Meat and meat products are rich and concentrated sources of nutrients including fats, proteins, vitamin B12, zinc and iron. Meat is categorised into red meat and white meat. Meat from any source is of similar nutritional value, whether it is white or red. The intensity of colour in meat depends on the amount of myoglobin it contains. It is incorrect to assume that white meat from birds is superior to red meat, or vice versa. Offal meat (i.e. internal organs such as liver and kidney), however, tends to have a higher nutritional value, and red meat is known to contain a rich source of iron.
